Crisis Intervention and Mental Health

National Alliance on Mental Illness’s LGBTQ Support Resources gives tips on finding an LGBTQ-inclusive mental health provider as well as links to many other resources.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers 24/7, free, confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. They also provide LGBTQ+ “help yourself” resources.

Trevor Project provides trained counseling via text, chat, and phone, particularly for people under the age of 25.

National Groups

GLSEN works to improve school climate and champion LGBT issues in K-12 education. They help make sure that every student is valued and treated with respect so every student can have a safe, affirming school environment where they can learn and grow..

Matthew Shepard Foundation has outreach, advocacy, and resource programs to help people embrace human dignity and diversity.

PFLAG provides support, information, and resources for LGBTQ folks, parents, and allies.

Refuge Restrooms seeks to provide safe restroom access for transgender, intersex, and gender nonconforming folks. You can search for restrooms near to a particular location, add new restroom locations, and comment on or rate existing listings.

Idaho or Regional Groups

Add the Words, Idaho urges Idaho legislators to update the Idaho Human Rights Act to include protection from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodation for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Add the Four Words works to increase pressure on Idaho legislators to include gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and transgender people in Idaho’s non-discrimination laws.

Include Us Idaho works to have Idaho lawmakers protect gay and transgender Idahoans from employment and public accommodation discrimination.

North Idaho Pride Alliance offers networking, education, and advocacy for LGBTQA+ people and community groups in north Idaho.

Pride Foundation works to advance LGBTQ equality across the Northwest.

The Community Center (TCC) offers educational and developmental programs, a variety of resources, and a meeting space for LGBTQ folks and groups.

United Vision for Idaho challenges systemic discrimination in all its forms.

ALA GLBTRT’s Professional Toolkits offer a wide range of advice from booklists to facilities assessment to student support.

Books for Kids in Gay Families offers a wide range of books about LGBTQ, gender nonconforming, and other issues.

Out in Print offers book reviews.

OUT Magazine’s Art & Books Section covers art, books, and a range of other entertainment forms.

SAA’s Lesbian and Gay Archives Section promotes the preservation and research use of records documenting LGBT history.

Country Queers is a multimedia oral history project documenting the experiences of rural and small town LGBTQIA folks across the USA.

Lavender Legacies from the Society of American Archivists offers a guide to primary source material relating to the history and culture of LGBT people held by repositories in North America.

People with a History from Fordham University offers a wide range of primary sources and discussions about LGBT history. It includes ancient, medieval, and modern history and aims to span the whole globe.

Lambda Literary Foundation has reviews, interviews, feature articles, and more about LGBTQ literature.
